As a child, you probably quickly learned that if you put your hand on a hot stove, you will get burned. In this way, you associated heat with pain and learned not to put your hand on the stove. 🔥
This is a typical example of associative learning.
So, a learning style that occurs when two unrelated elements (eg, objects, images, sounds, ideas, and/or behaviors) become associated in your brain through a process known as conditioning. 🔗
How often do you clean your room?
I dare say that I would definitely do it more often if I was rewarded with an extra weekend outing for it, or if I could watch my favorite TV series after this chore.
On the other hand, if your parents never rewarded you for cleaning your room, you wouldn't condition cleaning with something good, so your motivation level wouldn't be as high either.
So, maybe it wouldn't be such a bad idea to introduce this associative learning theory to parents, don't you agree? 😜
